First, the Afghan Taliban took power in Kabul that many believe will only embolden the religious-ideological movements and militant groups operating in the region, including Pakistan. Secondly, episodes of violent protests by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and the way the government eventually surrendered to the group leaders’ demands, as well as continuing incidence of faith-based individual and mob violence once again highlighted the persisting threat of violent and nonviolent shades of religious extremism in the country – in one of such incidents, a Sri Lankan national was lynched to death in Sialkot on the allegation of blasphemy.
