The elections for Iran’s tenth Islamic Consultative Assembly held in 2016 had witnessed considerable gains for the moderates, including both reformists and centrists, thus putting the conservatives at a disadvantage. Desperate Iranians then had discovered a ray of hope in the newly signed Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) also known as the Iranian nuclear deal.
